A little update for you all...
(Here is the last update if you missed it!)
I had my surgery on Friday. It went very smoothly and I was not in as much pain afterwards as I thought I would be. I was able to go home the same day. As you can maybe tell from this picture, I was still not totally with it yet on the ride home.
In fact, Samuel keeps telling me info that the surgeon gave us afterwards and things that happened that night and I don't remember much of anything. Kind of embarrassing considering that I uploaded an Instagram story that night, so my apologies if I was still loopy in that video.
I was on the edge of my seat waiting FOUR days for my pathology results. Right as the results came in on my phone, my surgeon called me.
"Congrats, you are now cancer free!"
There was no cancer left in the lymph nodes. There were some small “stage 0” cancer spots in the lump, but they were all within the margins, so it was a successful surgery. The largest spot was 2mm which means the chemo really shrunk it down from its original 8cm.
Recovery is going smoothly too. I am pretty sore, but it's manageable. I have some nerve pain from the surgery in my arm and still need to be careful not to lift anything (or any one). My armpit will probably be permanently numb, but I'm sure I'll get used to that.
Next up is radiation. Mostly people I've heard who have gone through it haven't had too bad of side effects, so I'm really excited to get going on that and zap any stray cancer cells that may have survived the chemo and surgery.
I am so excited to start feeling better and start posting more recipes for you guys again! Before the cancer struck, my plan had been to start posting recipes weekly starting at the new year. Obviously that didn't pan out, but I do have a ton of recipes in my head and scribbled on notebooks for you, so watch out.
So very happy about this news! Still praying for you. Jd

ReplyDeleteHi! I've been following you waaay back when, and I've commented once or twice on your recipes (big fan!). I was there when you announced your first pregnancy, when you moved to Germany for a while, and when you came back home. I know that we live in the age of para-social relationships, or maybe it is food bringing us together, but I wanted to congratulate you from the bottom of my heart! Cancer is never easy, and you have been an absolute warrior through the process. Keep it up, be proud of yourself, and keep on fighting. -Jay
